In our first semester project we observed a shocking amount of disposable water bottles being used around Grandville High School.
There was five of us in our group for the project and between all of us we counted over two thousand water bottles that were used throughout the course of a month. We counted in every single class for four weeks and found that a majority of students brought disposable water bottles from home rather than a refillable one. One single plastic water bottle takes over 450 years to decompose in a landfill, and accounting for the fact that our school has very inadequate recycling resources, Grandville High School is making a very large negative impact on the environment because of our use of plastic containers.
